Advice On Getting To Riepe 

 

Just a generation ago the village of Riepe would have been even more isolated - today this old settlement is just a few hours from a lowland town that didn't exist back then.  Even today there has been little to challenge the villagers' tried and tested norms of self-reliance and self-sufficiency.  What is more, the vintage values that prevail here in Riepe help to foster in every visitor that exhilarating sense of finally, finally, being 'away from it all'.

We are talking of a 600 metre climb to Riepe from the Marsyangdi valley using a winding six kms of mostly dirt track.  This begins at Kalimati 21 kms from Dumre - on the Kathmandu-Pokara highway. This is the road that leads to Besishar, beyond which lie Manang and the Annapurna Circuit. At Kalimati the track turns off, (left), via the village of Chok Chisapani and up to Riepe.

 

Total travelling time to Reipe is approximately 5-6 hours from Kathmandu, or 3 hours 30 minutes from Pokhara.

There is an alternative route from Pokhara to Riepe. This avoids the main highway and takes us  via the Lakes at Begnas and the backroad known as the Middle Hills Highway.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT:  There are plenty of buses to Dumre along the Prithvi Highway from both Kathmandu and Pokhara. Then, from Dumre, there are frequent buses to Kalimati that travel  through to Besisahar. Once in Kalimati, finding seats in a vehicle for the few kilometres up to Riepe is a simple, final step.
